Consultation fees

Our fees are charged by time

Most consultations run for 46 to 60 minutes, charged at our hourly rate.

  • Consultations are charged by the hour, from $240 to $280, depending on the clinician you see.
  • The same hourly rate applies to initial and follow-up consultations.

Our fees are set with reference to the recommended schedule published by the Australian Psychological Society, so you can be confident they are fair and in line with the profession.

GST. Psychological and neuropsychological services provided for your own care are GST-free, so the fees above are the total you pay. GST applies to some services, including clinical supervision and medico-legal or other third-party assessments, where a report is prepared for an insurer, lawyer, court or employer. We will tell you if GST applies before we begin.

Assessment

What an assessment costs

A neuropsychological assessment is not a single appointment. It usually involves a clinical interview, a testing session, and time for scoring, interpretation and a written report. Most assessments take between 6 and 15 hours in total, charged at the hourly rate above. A focused assessment that answers a single, clear question usually sits towards the lower end; more complex matters, such as adult ADHD, capacity, medico-legal or multi-source assessments, or work that coordinates with NDIS or WorkCover, usually sit towards the higher end. Where an interpreter is needed, additional hours and fees apply.

We will give you a clear, itemised estimate before any assessment is booked, so you know the full cost up front.

Medicare

Therapy and the Better Access program

If you see us for psychological therapy, you may be able to claim a Medicare rebate. With a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, the Better Access program currently provides a rebate of:

  • $141.85 per session with a clinical psychologist
  • $96.65 per session with a registered psychologist

This applies to up to 10 individual sessions per calendar year, with a GP review after the first six. You pay our fee on the day and Medicare refunds the rebate to you; the difference between our fee and the rebate is the gap you pay. These rebates are set by Medicare and indexed each year; the figures above are current at the time of publication.

Neuropsychological assessment is not covered by the Medicare Better Access program. There is no standard Medicare rebate for an assessment. This is a feature of the Medicare system, not a choice we make. Assessments are commonly funded privately, or through one of the pathways below.

Funding pathways

Ways your care can be funded

  • Privately, paying our fees directly.
  • Medicare (Better Access), for psychological therapy with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, as above.
  • NDIS, where assessment or therapy is a reasonable and necessary support; NDIS-funded work is charged at the rate in the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements (see our NDIS page).
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs, for eligible card holders (see our DVA page).
  • WorkCover Queensland, CTP insurers, icare (NSW) and other compensation schemes, where your claim covers it (see our WorkCover page).
  • Private health insurance. We are not currently registered with private health funds for extras claiming, so an extras rebate is not available for our services at this time.
  • Employer and employee assistance programs (EAP).
Private Medicare (Better Access) NDIS DVA WorkCover QLD icare (NSW)

If you are not sure which pathway applies to you, call us and we will help you work it out before anything is booked.

Policies

Booking, payment and cancellations

We explain all of this before you book. These terms reflect that an appointment reserves time that is held for you, and is hard to offer to someone else at short notice.

Therapy

For new therapy bookings, payment is made before your appointment. Where you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, we process the rebate for you within 2 business days of the appointment, so it is back with you quickly.

Neuropsychological assessment

A privately funded assessment has an initial booking fee of $300 to secure the appointment. This is not an additional charge: it is credited to your account and comes off the total cost of your assessment. Where your assessment is funded by the NDIS, DVA, WorkCover or another scheme, we invoice the funder, and no booking fee applies to you.

Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds

Plans change, and we will always try to help. If you need to cancel or reschedule:

  • More than 48 hours before your appointment, your payment or booking fee is refunded in full.
  • Within 48 hours of your appointment, we are usually not able to refund it, because the time has been set aside for you and is hard to fill at short notice. Where we can, we will credit it toward a future appointment with us.
  • If an appointment is missed without notice, the amount is retained, to cover the time that was reserved and could not be offered to someone else.

If something genuine and unavoidable comes up, please talk to us as early as you can and we will do our best to find a fair solution. These terms do not take away any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

Payment

We accept cash, credit card and EFT, and can process Medicare and other rebates where they apply. Payment is due on the day of your appointment, unless we have arranged otherwise as set out above.

Common questions

Fees and funding, answered plainly

Are your fees the same for initial and follow-up appointments?

Yes. We charge the same hourly rate, from $240 to $280 depending on the clinician you see, for both initial and follow-up consultations. We confirm your fee with you before we begin.

Is a neuropsychological assessment covered by Medicare?

No. Assessment is not covered by the Medicare Better Access program, so there is no standard Medicare rebate for it. Assessments are commonly funded privately, or through the NDIS, DVA, WorkCover Queensland, icare, CTP insurers or employer programs.

How is NDIS-funded work charged?

At the rate set in the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. We confirm the likely hours and the cost with you or the participant before booking.

Do I need to pay anything to secure a booking?

For therapy, payment is made before your appointment, and where a Medicare rebate applies we process it within 2 business days. For a privately funded assessment, an initial booking fee of $300 secures the appointment and is credited to the total cost. If your care is funded by the NDIS, DVA or a compensation scheme, we invoice the funder and no booking fee applies to you.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

If you cancel or reschedule more than 48 hours before your appointment, your payment or booking fee is refunded in full. Within 48 hours, we are usually not able to refund it, because the time was set aside for you, but where we can we will credit it toward a future appointment. A missed appointment without notice is retained. These terms do not take away your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

No surprises

Whatever your situation, we will explain your fees and funding options before your first appointment, and we will not start work until you know what it costs.
