Accessibility

Everyone should be able to use this site, and reach our care.

We want this website to work for as many people as possible, whatever device you use and however you browse. Here is what we have done, and how to tell us when we fall short.

An ongoing commitment not a one-off

Accessibility is something we keep working on, not a box we tick once.

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard widely used across Australian health and government services. We are working towards full conformance, and we welcome being told where we have not got there yet.

What we have built in

How we have tried to make this site usable

  • You can move through the whole site using a keyboard, and a "skip to content" link lets you jump straight past the menu.
  • Where you are on the page is shown with a clear, visible focus outline.
  • Headings are structured in order, so screen readers and assistive technology can navigate the page.
  • Text is set at a comfortable size with strong colour contrast, and the layout adapts to phones, tablets and larger screens.
  • Images that carry meaning have text descriptions, and decorative artwork is hidden from screen readers so it does not get in the way.
  • If you prefer reduced motion, the gentle fade effects are switched off automatically when your device asks for it.
  • We write in plain language and explain clinical terms, so the content is easier to follow.
  • Telehealth appointments by secure video or phone are available if getting to us is difficult.

Being honest about limits

Where we know there is more to do

No website is ever perfectly accessible, and parts of this one are still being built. Some documents and forms may not yet meet every guideline, and we have not completed a formal independent audit. We keep working at it, and we welcome being told where we fall short.

If something does not work for you, that is useful for us to know. We would rather hear about it and fix it than leave a barrier in place.

If you need help, or another format

We will meet you where you are

If any part of this site is hard to use, or you would like information in a different format, contact us and we will help. We can talk you through anything on the site by phone, take your details that way instead of through a form, and provide key information in large print or another format on request.
