You do not need to have it all worked out before you make contact.

The Brain and Mind Clinic is a clinically led Gold Coast practice. Our clinicians are neuropsychologists and psychologists, and we work across the lifespan, from young children through to older adults, doing two things side by side: we assess thinking and memory, and we provide psychological therapy.

Why we do this

What we are here to do

We are here to help people understand how their mind works, and to use that understanding to live the way they want to.

Whether we are assessing thinking and memory or providing therapy, the aim is the same: to bring clarity where things feel confusing, and a practical, hopeful next step. We treat everyone with respect, kindness and care. We keep you at the centre of decisions about your own life, we are honest about what we can and cannot do, and we protect your privacy at every step.

The Brain and Mind Clinic team

Who we are

A team, not a single person

Being a team means you get the right clinician for what you need, and the benefit of more than one mind on the harder questions. Care is provided by experienced clinicians who work with the practice, each registered in their own right and with their own areas of focus.

How we work

A few things shape everything we do

  • We explain things plainly. No jargon for its own sake. If we use a clinical term, we will tell you what it means in everyday words.
  • We start with strengths. We are interested in how your mind, or your child's mind, actually works, not just where things are hard. Everyone's brain works a little differently.
  • We are honest about what we can and cannot offer. We will tell you the likely cost before we begin, and if we are not the right service for you, we will help you find who is.
  • We take our time where it matters. A good assessment, or a good piece of therapy, is not rushed. We would rather get it right.
  • You are part of it. You know your own life, and your own child, better than anyone. We work with you, not at you.

What to expect

From first contact to your first appointment

There are no surprises along the way. If anything changes, we will tell you.

  1. You get in touch. Use the Request an appointment form, or call us on 0452 452 262. If you have a doctor's referral or a Mental Health Treatment Plan, attach it and we will take care of the rest. You do not need a referral for a private appointment.
  2. We confirm. Your request is acknowledged as soon as it reaches us, so you know it has landed.
  3. We call you. Our team phones to understand what you need, confirm the funding pathway and likely costs, and find a time that suits.
  4. We send the details. You receive your appointment time, intake forms, and everything you need to prepare. Completing your forms beforehand keeps the appointment itself free for the conversation that matters.
  5. Your first appointment. This is mostly about understanding you: what brought you here, relevant background, and what you are hoping for. From there we agree on a plan together.

Where we are

Southport, and telehealth across Australia

We are based in Southport, on the Gold Coast, and we see clients by secure telehealth across Australia where that is suitable. Telehealth means you can meet with us by video from home, which helps if travel is difficult or you live further afield.

We are relocating to new premises in Southport. Phone, email and fax are unchanged, and appointments continue as scheduled; our new clinic address will be announced soon.

Fees & funding

In plain terms, before we start

We will always tell you the fee before we start. How you pay depends on the service and your situation.

  • Psychological therapy can attract Medicare rebates with a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, through the Better Access initiative. A referral and plan are needed to claim those rebates, though not to see us privately.
  • Neuropsychological assessment is generally not rebated under Medicare's Better Access program. Assessments are commonly funded privately, or through the NDIS, the Department of Veterans' Affairs, WorkCover Queensland or insurers.

We confirm your funding pathway and likely costs when we speak, before anything is booked. Current figures are on our Fees and Policies page.

How to start

The simplest first step is to tell us a little about what is happening.
